GARMA 2019 PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE

9 July 2019

The Yothu Yindi Foundation (YYF) is pleased to announce the official Garma Program Booklet for 2019 has been released to the public.

YYF CEO Denise Bowden said the Program was the comprehensive guide for guests travelling to northeast Arnhem Land for this year’s event – the 21st annual Garma.

“The Program Booklet contains the schedules for all activities taking place around the Gulkula site over the course of four days,” Mrs Bowden said.

“It helps people plan their Garma experience and ensure they don’t miss out on any of the action.

“The Program Booklet is our largest yet, and makes a perfect memento of the occasion, with biographies of the artists and musicians performing at this year’s event.”

In addition to capturing the faces of the people of northeast Arnhem Land, the Booklet also explains the significance of the Gulkula site, provides a brief history of the region, and sets out the challenges which remote Indigenous communities are facing. It also celebrates this year’s Yolngu heroes.

Garma 2019 will take place between 2-5 August at the culturally-significant Gulkula ceremonial grounds, in northeast Arnhem Land, in the NT.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Garma’lili manapanmirri dhukarryarrany’dhun gudarr’wu’, which means ‘Pathways to our future’ in Yolngu Matha. It is also the International Year of Indigenous Languages.
