NITV Back On Board For Garma 2022

30 June 2022

The Yothu Yindi Foundation is delighted to announce that National Indigenous Television (NITV) has  reaffirmed its commitment to the Garma Festival as Media Supporter for this year’s event.

Welcoming the news, YYF CEO and Festival Director Denise Bowden said the decision by the  broadcaster continued a long-standing relationship that has seen NITV providing comprehensive  coverage from Garma stretching back many years.

“NITV offers a unique service in the media landscape, covering Indigenous culture and First Nations  issues in a way no other outlet can,” Mrs Bowden said.

“They’ve had a significant presence at Garma over many years, giving an important platform for Yolngu  voices to be heard, and culture to be celebrated. We’re excited to hear that NITV, together with SBS,  will be expanding their coverage even further this year, sharing the Garma experience with an even  wider audience.”

Tanya Denning-Orman, SBS Director of Indigenous Content, said: “We can’t wait to be back at Gulkula  for the return of Garma. We’re looking forward to once again partnering with the Yothu Yindi  Foundation to bring the powerful stories and important moments from across the festival to mob all  over Australia through comprehensive coverage across NITV programs and platforms.

“Not only will we be live on the ground for NITV to give audiences a front row seat to key events and  ceremony, we’ll be providing updates and highlights covering the big issues and cultural celebrations  of the day.

“We’re also proud to be sharing the experience with more Australians across SBS by connecting  multicultural communities with First Nations perspectives. For the first time we’ll have SBS’s extensive language services gathering stories and broadcasting from Garma, including in Arabic and Mandarin  among the multilingual coverage that will feature across the network.”

The 22nd annual Garma Festival will take place at Gulkula, on the Gove Peninsula in northeast Arnhem Land, between Friday 29 July – Monday 1 August, 2022.
