Official Garma 2022 Program Booklet Released

15 July 2022

The Yothu Yindi Foundation is delighted to present this year’s Official Garma Festival Program Booklet – the comprehensive guide to this year’s event.

YYF CEO Denise Bowden said the four-day program was a celebration of ancient and contemporary Yolngu life.

“Garma draws on the incredible legacy of 60,000 years of Yolngu knowledge, a cultural heritage that is as relevant today as it was during the time of the ancestors,” Mrs Bowden said.

“The program offers a window into the many ways that traditional forms are expressed in modern contemporary ways – in music and song, in art, and in the growing number of successful local enterprises built on a foundation of Yolngu philosophy and knowledge.

“The four-day schedule is packed with opportunities to delve into the substance and beauty of the Yolngu cosmos, guided by our senior leaders and knowledge-holders.”

In addition to the schedule for all activities across the Gulkula grounds, the Program Booklet also promotes and profiles the many artists and performers taking part in this year’s event, along with this year’s Yolngu Heroes.

“The Program Booklet allows guests to plan their four-day experience and ensure they don’t miss out on any of the action. It’s also a wonderful uplifting and historical memento of the event, packed with information about the site, the region, and the politics of Indigenous policy.”

The 22nd annual Garma will take place from Friday 29 July – Monday 1 August at Gulkula, on the Gove Peninsula in the NT.

The program booklet has been designed as an acknowledgement of the positive and uplifting theme for this year’s event - ‘Nhanga Ngathilyurra’, a Yolngu phrase which means to ‘look ahead’, or ‘look toward the future’.
